Necia White and Neil Green are the owners of a property situated in Monduran, approximately 50km west of Bundaberg, Queensland. For many years the property has been cleared for running cattle; however Necia and Neil intend to fence the block and regenerate the area with the hopes of creating a wildlife-friendly sanctuary. They are currently considering the best methods for maintaining the grasslands whilst controlling the weeds and feral animals present on the property.
The property covers approximately 100 hectares of undulating hills on buckshot granite soil, and features two dams and a number of creeks. The majority of the property was cleared and the land has been historically used for cattle enterprises, however now it has dense regrowth. Vegetation consists of ironbarks, wattles and mahogany trees, as well as speargrass (Austrostipa spp.). Weeds such as couch grass (Elymus repens), lantana (Lantana camara), rat’s tail grasses (Sporobolus spp.) and cactus are also present, as well as an unknown nitrogen-producing species.
A range of wildlife is present including eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), swamp wallabies (Wallabia bicolor), short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus), Argus (Varanus panoptes) and lace (Varanus varius) monitors, Tommy roundhead dragons (Diporiphora australis), various snakes and over 90 species of birds.
