Wildlife Land Trust / Sanctuaries / VIC / Snowy River Camp

Tanya and Brian McErlain are the owners of Snowy River Camp, a property situated in Tallangatta Valley in northern Victoria. The property is a residence and beef cattle enterprise as well as a dedicated wildlife sanctuary. The property also hosts tourist accommodation as well as school camps, providing outdoor recreational activities to visitors. Tanya and Brian intend to maintain the accommodation business whilst improving the natural values of the property through revegetation and the extension of existing wildlife corridors.

The property covers approximately 71 hectares, approximately 52 of which are pasture interspersed with mature eucalypts and European trees. A large dam covers 4 hectares and is stocked with Murray cod (Maccullochella peelii), and around 8 hectares of established gardens and outdoor areas are set amongst native and introduced trees. A regenerated wildlife corridor covering approximately 6 hectares runs through the property and consists of a variety of native grasses, wattles and eucalypts.

A vast array of wildlife is present on the property including eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus), bare-nosed wombats (Vombatus ursinus), bats, frogs, lizards and an abundance of birds and insects.
