Lyrerie, named for the superb lyrebirds that call this sanctuary home, has huge potential as a stunning regeneration site. Though the 2019 bushfires have cleared most canopy vegetation and infrastructure, this property features incredible natural formations and provides a unique opportunity to restore a rainforest rich in biodiversity.
The property covers 16 hectares, with 11 hectares under the permanent protection of a Voluntary Conservation Agreement (VCA). Surrounded by the Morton National Park and intersected by School Creek, the sanctuary also features a high sandstone escarpment and several smaller creeks.
Regeneration is already taking place, assisted with the Biodiversity Conservation Trust’s weed removal and fencing renewal funding, focusing on protecting and re-establishing this vital rainforest refuge.
A development application is now active, with plans for a dwelling on an escarpment just above the property’s creek. Underground power, main grid and telephone landlines connect to the property, and access is via a Crown Reserve easement over the national park. The sanctuary is approx. 15 minutes from Kangaroo Valley and about 30 minutes from Nowra.
