Bo Bo Retreat is a property situated in Hillville, approximately 20km southwest of Taree, New South Wales. The property is a dedicated wildlife refuge, also used for light permaculture agriculture. The owner plans to preserve Bo Bo Retreat for the benefit of native species and is pursuing a permanent Conservation Agreement to help future owners manage the property for wildlife.
The property spans 20 hectares of eucalypt woodland and native grasslands, with frontage on to Bo Bo Creek to the north. It also neighbours the owner’s existing Wildlife Land Trust sanctuary.
Wildlife is abundant, featuring a healthy population of koalas (Phascolarctos cinereus) as well as platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus), swamp (Wallabia bicolor) and red-necked (Macropus rufogriseus) wallabies, brushtail (Trichosurus vulpecula) and ringtail (Pseudocheirus peregrinus) possums, sugar gliders (Petaurus breviceps), long-nosed potoroos (Potorous tridactylus), long-nosed bandicoots (Perameles nasuta), native rats, microbats, lace monitors (Varanus varius), land mullets (Bellatorias major), water dragons (Intellagama lesueurii) and native snakes.
A wide range of birdlife is also present including red (Calyptorhynchus banksii) and yellow (Zanda funerea) tailed black cockatoos, king parrots (Alisterus scapularis), galahs (Eolophus roseicapilla), long-billed corellas (Cacatua tenuirostris), little doves (Geopelia cuneata) and white-headed pigeons (Columba leucomela).
