David and Cindy Brassil are the owners of Ruhe, a property located approximately 50km South of Canberra. The property is a dedicated wildlife sanctuary, home, and is used for native wildlife rehabilitation and release. It is David and Cindy’s intention to continue with the rehabilitation and release of injured and orphaned native wildlife.
The sanctuary covers 40 hectares of natural Australian bush in the Murrumbidgee River corridor. The land varies from gently undulating at the top to steep slopes with gorge and gully areas with numerous rocky outcrops. A limestone ridge fronts the flats of the Murrumbidgee River. Dominant vegetation species include a mix of yellow (Eucalyptus melliodora) and apple (Eucalyptus bridgesiana) box along with snow (Eucalyptus pauciflora) and peppermint (Eucalyptus dives) gums. Numerous native grasses are found throughout the property.
Native wildlife species known to occur on Ruhe include eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), common wallaroos (Macropus robustus), swamp wallabies (Wallabia bicolour), red-necked wallabies (Macropus rufogriseus) and bare-nosed wombats (Vombatus ursinus), while yellow-tailed black cockatoos (Calyptorhynchus funereus) and various native bird species inhabit the area, including a family of wedge-tailed eagles (Aquila audax) living nearby which frequently hover over Ruhe. A wide variety of lizard and snake species also live throughout the property.
