Wildlife Land Trust / Sanctuaries / NSW / Quoll Headquarters

Steve Haslam is the owner of Quoll Headquarters, a property located approximately 15km north of Tenterfield.  The property is primarily a dedicated wildlife sanctuary used for wildlife rehabilitation, and it is Steve’s intent for Quoll Headquarters to remain a private wildlife refuge.

The sanctuary covers 164 hectares, predominantly comprised of a mix of virgin old-growth eucalypt habitat and regenerated grazing land on undulating granite soils, with granite boulders, outcrops and several watercourses also present.  Vegetation types found on Quoll Headquarters include wet sclerophyll and dry sclerophyll forest, heathland and wetlands.

Wildlife is abundant on Quoll Headquarters, with 7 amphibian, 72 bird, 14 mammal and 16 reptile species being recorded to date.  Examples of species to be found on the sanctuary include the great barred frog (Mixophyes fasciolatus), wedge-tailed eagle (Aquila audax), Wonga pigeon (Leucosarcia melanoleuca), glossy black cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus lathami), yellow-tailed black cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus funerus), southern boobook (Ninox novaeseelandiae), white-winged chough (Corcorax melanorhamphos), spotted-tailed quoll (Dasyurus maculatus), northern brown bandicoot (Isoodon macrourus), yellow-bellied glider (Petaurus australis), eastern long-necked turtle (Chelodina longicollis) and red-throated (Acritoscincus platynotum) and Cunningham’s (Egernia cunninghami) skinks.
