Michele Poole is the owner of Greenacres, a property located approximately 25km North-East of Byron Bay. Among the property’s purposes are acting as a dedicated wildlife sanctuary, as well as being used for native wildlife rehabilitation and the agistment of horses. It is Michele’s intent for Greenacres to remain a sanctuary for wildlife, and any future sale of the property would require the buyer to be of the same mind.
The sanctuary covers approximately 56 hectares which includes native rainforest vegetation (featuring glowing mushrooms) and a riparian zone. Wildlife species present on the property includes koalas (Phascolarctos cinereus), swamp wallabies (Wallabia bicolor), long-nosed potoroos (Potorous tridactylus), northern brown bandicoots (Isoodon macrourus), hopping mice (Notomys spp.), brushtail possums (Trichosurus vulpecula) and dingos (Canis dingo), as well as a range of snakes including tiger snakes (Notechis scutatus) and carpet pythons (Morelia spilota).
A wide variety of native bird species are also present including black cockatoos (Calyptorhynchus spp.), grey goshawks (Accipiter novaehollandiae), brush turkeys (Alectura lathami), wonga pigeons (Leucosarcia melanoleuca), pheasant coucals (Centropus phasianinus), finches and many more.
