J & B Reid are the owners of Wallaroo, a property located in the Hunter Region of New South Wales. The property is a dedicated wildlife sanctuary used by the owners as a place to getaway, relax and enjoy nature. It is the owners’ intent to continue to protect the property, conserving habitat as a safe haven for local wildlife.
Wallaroo covers approximately 43 hectares of eucalypt woodlands backing on to the State Forest. Approximately 3 hectares have been cleared while the rest of the property remains in its original state.
The sanctuary supports an abundance of wildlife, documented in a log kept by the owners which dates back to approximately 2002. Wildlife known to inhabit the property include swamp (Wallabia bicolor) and red-necked (Macropus rufogriseus) wallabies, eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), wallaroos (Macropus robustus), gliders (Petaurus spp.), brushtail (Trichosurus vulpecula) and ringtail (Pseudocheirus peregrinus) possums, and bare-nosed wombats (Vombatus ursinus). Bird life includes superb lyrebirds (Menura novaehollandiae), satin bowerbirds (Ptilonorhynchus violaceus), superb fairy-wrens (Malurus cyaneus), weebills (Smicrornis brevirostris), wedge-tailed eagles (Aquila audax) and other raptors.
