Description

Janet Reynolds is the owner of 801, a property located approximately 20km northwest of Bega. The property is a dedicated wildlife-friendly sanctuary and a residence. It is Janet's intent to continue to utilise the property for the benefit of local wildlife and the habitats which support them.

The sanctuary borders South East Forests National Park which becomes Wadbilliga National Park and covers 40.15 hectares of which 99% is dry sclerophyll forest. The northern border of the property is a permanent creek, providing a vital water source for local wildlife. Vegetation includes eucalypts (Eucalyptus spp.), tea trees (Leptospermum spp.), she oaks (Casuarina spp.), geebungs (Persoonia spp.) and wonga-wonga vines (Pandorea pandorana).

Wildlife species known to inhabit the sanctuary include bare-nosed wombats (Vombatus ursinus), red-necked (Macropus rufogriseus) and swamp (Wallabia bicolor) wallabies, ringtail (Pseudocheirus peregrinus) and brushtail (Trichosurus vulpecula) possums, eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), lace monitors (Varanus varius), red-bellied black (Pseudechis porphyriacus), tiger (Notechis scutatus) and eastern brown (Pseudonaja textilis) snakes, death adders (Acanthophis antarcticus), pythons (Morelia spp.) and a variety of lizards. The property is home to a wealth of birdlife including superb lyrebirds (Menura novaehollandiae) and red-tailed black-cockatoos (Calyptorhynchus banksii).
