A residence and dedicated wildlife sanctuary

Description

Helen and William Stevens are the owners of Oolandra, a property located in approximately 35km southwest of Goulburn.  The property is a dedicated wildlife sanctuary, and as wildlife carers, Helen and William plan to carry out wildlife rehabilitation and release on Oolandra.

The sanctuary covers 40 hectares of native grassland and woodland, with woodland accounting for an estimated 85% of Oolandra. Predominant vegetation species include a variety of native grasses, eucalypts, casuarinas and acacias.

Examples of wildlife species known to be found on Oolandra include eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), swamp wallabies (Wallabia bicolor), bare-nosed wombats (Vombatus ursinus), short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus), gang-gang (Callocephalon fimbriatum) and sulphur-crested (Cacatua galerita) cockatoos, white-winged choughs (Corcorax melanorhamphos), herons, wedge-tailed eagles (Aquila audax), laughing kookaburras (Dacelo novaeguineae), blotched blue-tongue lizards (Tiliqua nigrolutea) and red-bellied black snakes (Pseudechis porphyriacus), however the sanctuary was only recently purchased and further wildlife species are being discovered regularly.
