Lola Topsom is the owner of Lolaland, a property located approximately 20km south of Yamba. The property is a dedicated wildlife sanctuary utilised for the benefit of the local environment. With the development of a new highway nearby, it is Lola’s intent for the property to act as a safe haven for local wildlife which may be disturbed by the infrastructure works.
Lolaland covers 31.56 hectares and predominantly comprises of wetlands. Vegetation includes swamp paperbarks (Melaleuca ericifolia), swamp she-oaks (Casuarina glauca), water couch grasses (Paspalum distichum) and spike-rushes (Eleocharis obicis). A diverse range of fish, reptiles and mammals are known to inhabit the property. The sanctuary is also abundant in birdlife, with the owner identifying 128 bird species over a two year period, with the latest additions being eastern whipbirds (Psophodes olivaceus) and double-barred finches (Taeniopygia bichenovii).
