Wildlife Land Trust / Sanctuaries / NSW / Pinnacle Eco Retreat

Barbara Tyler is the owner of Pinnacle Eco Retreat, a property located approximately 30km southwest of Murwillumbah. The property is a dedicated wildlife-friendly sanctuary also used for education, recreation and ecotourism, and it is Barbara’s intent to revegetate and rehabilitate as much rainforest vegetation as possible using organic and permaculture principles. Pinnacle Eco Retreat sits within significant aboriginal cultural heritage sites and is adjacent to the World Heritage-listed Border Ranges National Park.

The sanctuary covers 20 hectares of subtropical ex-farmland with healthy remnant bush corridors and a rainforest revegetation project underway, with primary vegetation types being grassland and subtropical rainforest.

Wildlife species known to inhabit Pinnacle Eco Retreat include a diverse range of birdlife, long-nosed bandicoots (Perameles nasuta), freshwater turtles, eels and crayfish, brushtail (Trichosurus vulpecula) and ringtail (Pseudocheirus peregrinus) possums, swamp wallabies (Wallabia bicolor), eastern water dragons (Intellagama I. lesueurii), native rats, antechinus, feathertail gliders (Acrobates pygmaeus), frogs, snakes, and lace monitors (Varanus varius), while koalas (Phascolarctos cinereus) have also been heard nearby.
