Clogheen Cottage (pronounced Clo’heen) is a spacious, well-appointed cottage with unsurpassed views out to Byron Bay and the volcanic cliffs behind. The cottage is situated close to the main residence, screened by native gardens and a massive mango tree under which you may sit and enjoy the valley views.

Featuring two bedrooms and two bathrooms, the cottage adjoins a full sized, landscaped swimming pool set in lovely gardens and lawns. Explore the spray-free banana and avocado hobby farm along designated walking tracks or sit on the deck to read a book or just soak in the stunning views of the mountains and coast.

For a day trip head to the nearby Brunswick Heads, Crystal Castle or Byron Bay, just a short drive away.

Julie and Peter Ryan are the owners of Clogheen, a property located in Mullumbimby Creek, approximately 20km northwest of Byron Bay, New South Wales. The property is a residence and wildlife sanctuary, also used to run a small eco-friendly accommodation. Julie and Peter have undertaken extensive revegetation projects to restore the natural values of the property, which has resulted in a notable increase in the abundance and diversity of wildlife.

The property covers approximately 13 hectares and adjoins Mount Jerusalem National Park. The property is comprised of steep hills interspersed with plateaus and is part of the Mount Warning volcanic area. Vegetation consists of sub-tropical rainforest and wet sclerophyll woodland, and features a rare grove of original indigenous macadamia trees.

The property’s location at the ecotone of the coast and ranges ecosystems allows a wide range of wildlife to live in the area, including short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus), swamp wallabies (Wallabia bicolor) and northern brown bandicoots (Isoodon macrourus). Birdlife is abundant and includes superb lyrebirds (Menura novaehollandiae), Wompoo fruit doves (Ptilinopus magnificus), wonga pigeons (Leucosarcia melanoleuca), native pigeons, pheasant coucals (Centropus phasianinus), sulphur-crested (Cacatua galerita) and black (Calyptorhynchus spp.) cockatoos and a range of parrots.
