A residence and dedicated sanctuary for wildlife

Description

Donald Edwards is the owner of Tree Haven, a property situated in Terragon, approximately 45km northwest of Byron Bay, New South Wales. The property is a residence and dedicated sanctuary for wildlife, and is currently protected in-perpetuity with a Voluntary Conservation Agreement. Donald has revegetated the area over the past 35 years to provide habitat for native species, and approximately 90% of the property consists of native vegetation.

Tree Haven covers approximately 101.17 hectares and is bound on three sides by Wollumbin (Mount Warning) National Park. The property is situated in a secluded area at the end of a valley, and two permanent creeks flow through the property from the National Park. Vegetation is characterized by native rainforest species including figs, white booyong (Argyrodendron trifoliolatum), yellow carabeen (Sloanea woollsii), brush box (Lophostemon confertus), Illawarra flame tree (Brachychiton acerifolius), red cedar (Toona ciliata), tree ferns and many more.

A vast array of wildlife is present including koalas (Phascolarctos cinereus), short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus), agile wallabies (Macropus agilis), Albert's lyrebirds (Menura alberti), tawny frogmouths (Podargus strigoides), wompoo fruit-doves (Ptilinopus magnificus), brush turkeys (Alectura lathami), kingfishers and bowerbirds.
