Description

Carol and Alan East are the owners of Gungurru, a property situated in Cootamundra, approximately 90km north of Wagga Wagga, New South Wales. The property is a residence and wildlife-friendly sanctuary, also used to run a small herd of Angus cattle. Native bush on the property is protected with exclusion fencing and the farm is run as a holistic and organic enterprise. Carol and Alan have maintained the property for seventeen years and intend to continue running it as a conservation-friendly farm.

The property spans approximately 31 hectares and features two fenced ephemeral creek lines and permanent pastures comprised of mixed native and introduced grasses. Two major wildlife corridors are present and feature planted native acacia species, Kurrajong (Brachychiton populneus), cypress pine (Callitris spp.) and a range of eucalypts including lemon-scented gum (Corymbia citriodora), mallee, red stringybark (Eucalyptus macrorhyncha) and Blakely’s red gum (Eucalyptus blakelyi). Overall, the owners have planted 1,000 trees consisting of 50 species of acacia & 20 species of eucalyptus

A wide range of wildlife is present including eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), swamp wallabies (Wallabia bicolor) and 77 identified migrant and resident bird species.
