Ray Wilkinson is the owner of Ray’s Rocks (Lamonts), a property situated in Jennings, approximately 300km northwest of Coffs Harbour, New South Wales. The property is a dedicated conservation area, also used as a retreat and to graze a small herd of cattle. Ray would like to maintain the property and focus on making it a sanctuary for wildlife. The property is additionally undergoing registration as a Land for Wildlife sanctuary.
The property spans approximately 363 hectares and is comprised of open eucalypt woodland with multiple rocky outcrops and large rock slabs.
A wide range of wildlife is found on the property including eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), swamp wallabies (Wallabia bicolor), pretty-faced wallabies (Macropus parryi), short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus), superb lyrebirds (Menura novaehollandiae), satin bowerbirds (Ptilonorhynchus violaceus), wedge-tailed eagles (Aquila audax) and a variety of native parrots.
An array of reptiles also thrives on the sanctuary including pythons, red-bellied black snakes (Pseudechis porphyriacus), tiger snakes (Notechis scutatus), robust velvet geckos (Oedura robusta), bearded dragons (Pogona barbata) and Cunningham’s skinks (Egernia cunninghami).
