A dedicated wildlife sanctuary and rainforest regeneration site

Description

Michele Alberth is the owner of a property situated in Kyogle, approximately 40km northwest of Lismore, New South Wales. The property is a dedicated wildlife sanctuary and Michele has regenerated the lower section of the land with local rainforest species over the last three years. The property also houses a residence, several fruit trees, and a small acupuncture clinic. Michele intends to create a sanctuary for native flora and fauna on the property and wishes to inspire other landowners to do the same.

The property spans approximately 2.02 hectares and features one large dam. Vegetation is comprised of old-growth eucalypt forest featuring tallowwood (Eucalyptus microcorys) and ironbark (E. sideroxylon) gums with some pioneer species including celery trees (Polyscias elegans), geebungs (Persoonia spp.), foambark (Jagera pseudorhus) and silvertop ash (Eucalyptus sieberi). Lomandra and kangaroo grass (Themeda triandra) are prevalent, and fig trees and casuarinas also intersperse the property.

A wide range of wildlife is present on the property including koalas (Phascolarctos cinereus), red-necked wallabies (Macropus rufogriseus), brushtail possums (Trichosurus vulpecula), short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus), bandicoots and a wide range of birds.
