A home and dedicated wildlife sanctuary

Description

Terry Foster is the owner of Taloumbi Ridge, a property situated in Taloumbi, approximately 100km north of Coffs Harbour, New South Wales. The property is a dedicated wildlife sanctuary and home, and Terry intends to conserve it as habitat for native wildlife. Terry originally purchased the land as a cleared and weed-infested grazing property, and over the past 30 years has extensively restored the native vegetation back to health. He hopes to share his knowledge of native restoration while inspiring other landowners to do the same.

The property spans approximately 100 hectares on the northern end of Shark Creek Range. Vegetation is comprised of eucalypt woodland; wet and dry rainforest; remnant tea tree and flooded gum wetland; and native grasslands.

A wide variety of wildlife is present including pretty-faced (Macropus parryi) and red-necked (Macropus rufogriseus) wallabies, eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), swamp wallabies (Wallabia bicolor), eastern (Dasyurus viverrinus) and spotted-tailed (Dasyurus maculatus) quolls, brushtail possums (Trichosurus vulpecula), long-nosed (Perameles nasuta) and golden (Isoodon auratus) bandicoots, brush-tailed phascogales (Phascogale tapoatafa), bettongs, dunnarts, feathertail (Acrobates pygmaeus) and sugar (Petaurus breviceps) gliders, greater gliders (Petauroides volans) and antechinus, as well as an array of native frogs, birds and reptiles.

The property also features ten dams stocked with native fish and yabbies.
