A dedicated wildlife sanctuary and small-scale eucalyptus oil producer

Description

Owen Davis and Karen Davidson are the owners of Box Ridge, a property situated in Ingebirah, approximately 30km south of Jindabyne, New South Wales. The property is a dedicated wildlife sanctuary also used for small-scale, hand-harvesting of eucalypt leaves for essential oil production. Owen and Karen wish to maintain the property’s natural values for these purposes, as well as protecting it in the long term for their children.

The property spans 524.5 hectares of sub-alpine woodland rising to 1,200 metres above sea level. Vegetation is largely characterized by eucalypt woodland interspersed with native grasses.

A wide range of wildlife is present including short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus), spotted-tailed quolls (Dasyurus maculatus), red-necked wallabies (Macropus rufogriseus), bare-nosed wombats (Vombatus ursinus), brushtail (Trichosurus vulpecula) and ringtail (Pseudocheirus peregrinus) possums and microbats as well as various native lizards and snakes.

Birdlife is abundant and includes gang-gang cockatoos (Callocephalon fimbriatum), sulphur-crested cockatoos (Cacatua galerita), laughing kookaburras (Dacelo novaeguineae), wedge-tailed eagles (Aquila audax), wonga pigeons (Leucosarcia melanoleuca) and a range of parrots, robins, wrens and owls.
