A residence, wildlife sanctuary and habitat regeneration site

Description

Louise Boronyak is the owner of a property situated in Bowen Mountain, approximately 77km northwest of Sydney, New South Wales. The property is a residence and dedicated wildlife sanctuary as well as a bush regeneration site. Louise plans to continue restoring the property for the benefit of wildlife by planting local indigenous species and controlling lantana, Crofton and tobacco weeds. She also intends to establish a yoga and meditation retreat in the future, where visitors can connect with and appreciate nature.

The property covers 2.02 hectares on the foothills of the Blue Mountains. Originally a shale mine with very little vegetation, it has since been rehabilitated and now features stands of eucalypts and native grasses as well as two houses. Vegetation is comprised of dry sclerophyll forest with a grassy ground layer.

A wide range of wildlife has been sighted on the property, including swamp wallabies (Wallabia bicolor), lizards, snakes, frogs and a koala (Phascolarctos cinereus).

Birdlife is abundant and includes laughing kookaburras (Dacelo novaeguineae), grey butcher birds (Cracticus torquatus), king parrots (Alisterus scapularis), crimson (Platycercus elegans) and eastern (Platycercus eximius) rosellas, galahs (Eolophus roseicapilla), superb fairy-wrens (Malurus cyaneus), eastern whipbirds (Psophodes olivaceus) and bell miners (Manorina melanophrys).
