A wildlife-friendly sanctuary, beef cattle farm and release site for rehabilitated wildlife

Description

Daniel and Katrina McLaughlin are the owners of Clearview, a property situated in Dingo Pocket, approximately 17km west of Tully, Queensland. The property is a wildlife-friendly sanctuary, beef cattle farm and release site for rehabilitated wildlife. It also houses four low-impact, self-contained camping sites for visitors.

Daniel and Katrina are working closely with their local Landcare group to restore the property and have planted over 2,000 native species, with more regeneration work to come. They aim to improve the balance between nature and farming on the land, joining a movement of regenerative agriculture.

Clearview spans 140 hectares of undulating land comprised of pasture with pockets of remnant wetland and rainforest. Key habitat types include rainforest, eucalypt woodlands, wetlands, open grasslands and regenerated land.

A range of wildlife inhabits the property including agile (Notamacropus agilis) and swamp (Wallabia bicolor) wallabies, short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus) and a wide variety of native insects, reptiles and birds. A juvenile southern cassowary (Casuarius casuarius) also occasionally visits the property.
