Nightjar Ridge is a property situated in Guanaba, approximately 5km west of Tamborine Mountain, Queensland. The property is a wildlife sanctuary and bush regeneration site as well as a farm. The owners wish to conserve the property for wildlife and are investigating options for a permanent covenant through Queensland Trust for Nature. The property is also registered with Land for Wildlife.
Nightjar Ridge spans 52 hectares across a mixture of bushland and pasture. Vegetation is characterised as eucalypt woodland with areas of dry rainforest and some riparian zones around creeklines.
A wide range of wildlife is present including swamp (Wallabia bicolor) and red-necked (Macropus rufogriseus) wallabies, koalas (Phascolarctos cinereus), short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus), bandicoots, brushtail (Trichosurus vulpecula) and ringtail (Pseudocheirus peregrinus) possums, native rodents, Stephens’ banded snakes (Hoplocephalus stephensii), tusked frogs (Adelotus brevis), Richmond birdwing butterflies (Ornithoptera richmondia) and many more reptiles, frogs and insects.
The property also provides habitat for over 100 species of birds including glossy black-cockatoos (Calyptorhynchus lathami), black-necked storks (Ephippiorhynchus asiaticus), powerful owls (Ninox strenua) and sooty owls (Tyto tenebricosa tenebricosa).
