A dedicated wildlife-friendly sanctuary

Description

John and Joan Clarke are the owners of Teatree Park, a property located approximately 20km west of Agnes Water. The property is a dedicated wildlife-friendly sanctuary also registered with the Land for Wildlife program. It is John and Joan's intent to continue providing habitat for the wide variety of wildlife present at Teatree Park prior to selling the sanctuary to a conservation-minded buyer.

The property covers 16.2 hectares and has been kept in its natural bush state for at least 30 years. Teatree Park is surrounded by similarly managed and sized unfenced blocks, allowing native wildlife free access to a large area of habitat. Dominant vegetation species include bloodwoods (Corymbia intermedia), stringybarks (Eucalyptus eugenioides), and ironbarks (Eucalyptus crebra), with pockets of rainforest species along a seasonally flowing creek which divides the block. Seven acres of planted oil producing teatrees (Melaleuca alternifolia) provide nesting shelter for small birds.

Wildlife species known to inhabit the sanctuary include eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), black-tailed wallabies (Wallabia bicolor), brushtail possums (Trichosurus vulpecula), sugar gliders (Petaurus breviceps), tree snakes, northern brown bandicoots (Isoodon macrourus), lace monitors (Varanus varius), and a wide variety of native bird species such as king parrots (Alisterus scapularis), pale-headed rosellas (Platycercus adscitus), yellow-tailed black cockatoos (Calyptorhynchus funereus) and more.
