Wamuran Nature Refuge is a 10.93 hectare sanctuary contiguous with the Mt. Miketeebumulgrai section of Glass House Mountains National Park. Subject to a Voluntary Conservation Agreement with the Moreton Bay Regional council, the whole area owned by Jessica and Scott Doman is almost entirely vegetated and part of an isolated tract of vegetation of state conservation significance. There is also a swamp at the front of the property, a small creek joining a neighbouring property, and 2 small dams providing a permanent source of water for wildlife.
Together, these habitats provide sanctuary for numerous flora, fauna and ecosystems listed under both the Queensland and commonwealth environment legislation. Wildlife present on the property include red-necked wallabies (Macropus rufogriseus), platypuses (Ornithorhynchus anatinus), glossy black cockatoos (Calyptorhynchus lathami), powerful owls (Ninox strenua), grey goshawks (Accipiter novaehollandiae), sooty owls (Tyto tenebricosa) and regent honeyeaters (Anthochaera phrygia). The property also provides a setting for Jessica and Scott’s wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and release work.
