A dedicated wildlife sanctuary and soft-release site

Description

Amber Dahlberg is the owner of a property located approximately 5km north of Mt Molloy. The property is a dedicated wildlife sanctuary purchased specifically for the soft release of endemic species, and it is Amber's intent for it to remain in this purpose. It is located at the foothills of Mt Lewis and is bounded by 'Brooklyn', a 59,964 hectare Australian Wildlife Conservancy sanctuary.

The sanctuary covers 19 wildlife-friendly hectares, with vegetation types varying between open eucalypt woodland, wet sclerophyll forest, and tropical rainforest. Several bird, mammal, frog and plant species endemic to the area are found on the property, including blue-faced parrotfinches (Erythrura trichroa), waterfall frogs (Litoria nannotis), red-legged pademelons (Thylogale stigmatica), striped possums (Dactylopsila trivirgata), swamp wallabies (Wallabia bicolor), and northern quolls (Dasyurus hallucatus).

Wildlife rehabilitation facilities on the sanctuary include a very large pre-release enclosure with an internal dividing fence which can be moved or removed, quarantine facilities, and a small crèche for just emerging wallabies.
