Petrus’ Refuge is a high conservation value property owned by Petrus Heyligers which is located in Curramore, approximately 35km West of Maroochydore. Petrus is involved with ongoing forest restoration on the property, which is in the process of obtaining a Land for Wildlife agreement with the Queensland Government.
The sanctuary covers approximately 0.6 hectares of which around half is wet sclerophyll forest, one quarter under regeneration and the remaining a house block with grassed area.
Wildlife species known to be present include feathertail gliders (Acrobates pygmaeus), mountain brushtail possums (Trichosurus cunninghami), northern brown bandicoots (Isoodon macrourus), red-necked wallabies (Macropus rufogriseus), koalas (Phascolarctos cinereus), lace monitors (Varanus varius), carpet pythons (Morelia spilota), common tree (Dendrelaphis punctulata) and red-bellied black (Pseudechis porphyriacus) snakes, various skinks and frogs and many bird species that have been seen drinking and bathing at a water bowl. Brown goshawks (Accipiter fasciatus) are also known to be breeding on the sanctuary.
