Wildlife Land Trust / Sanctuaries / QLD / Whilalloo

Patricia Kelly is the sole director of TJM Select Investments Pty Ltd, owner of Whilalloo, a property located approximately 40km southeast of Inglewood. The property is a wildlife-friendly sanctuary formerly used for sheep grazing, and it is Patricia’s intent to manage Whilalloo for conservation purposes and have its biodiversity values protected in-perpetuity through a Nature Refuge Agreement. The property adjoins WLT sanctuary Dilladerri, and combined with sanctuaries Wilga Park and The Brothers forms a wildlife-friendly area of some 7,124 hectares.

The property covers 1,067 hectares, a large portion of which is covered by remnant vegetation (though some past illegal logging has occurred) including box-gum grassy woodland. A significant population of Macrozamia cranei, which is listed as Endangered under national environment legislation, is also present.

Wildlife species known to inhabit the sanctuary include eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), northern brown bandicoots (Isoodon macrourus), lace monitors (Varanus varius), and a wide variety of bird species such as superb fairy-wrens (Malurus cyaneus), red-winged parrots (Aprosmictus erythropterus), diamond firetails (Stagonopleura guttata), striated pardalotes (Pardalotus striatus), and brown falcons (Falco berigora).
