Wildlife Land Trust / Sanctuaries / QLD / Mas Montserrat

Montserrat Martinez is the owner of Mas Montserrat, a property located approximately 45km southeast of Gympie. The property is a residence and dedicated wildlife sanctuary also used for wildlife rehabilitation, and it is Montserrat’s intent for it to remain for these purposes. Mas Montserrat is also a member of the Land for Wildlife program.

The property totals 15 hilly hectares with a primary vegetation type of subtropical rainforest, and features gullies near the north and south borders and a partially cleared area around the house. A creek that begins in the southern gully provides a source of water for wildlife species known to inhabit the sanctuary, which include short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus), lace goannas (Varanus varius), platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus), northern brown bandicoots (Isoodon macrourus), red-necked (Macropus rufogriseus) and swamp (Wallabia bicolor) wallabies, and a range of snake species.
