Carmen Nevin and Phyllis Gratton are the owners of Wagtail Retreat, a property located approximately 140km southeast of ToowoombaThe property is a dedicated wildlife sanctuary and place of residence currently used for wildlife rehabilitation, and it is Phyllis and Carmen’s intention to continue these uses, protect native flora and fauna, and maintain the natural order of the refuge. The property is also a member of Land for Wildlife.

The sanctuary covers 64 hectares of typical granite belt terrain with rocky outcrops, featuring some cleared areas and natural bushland. Vegetation types include native grasses, a variety of eucalypts, wattles (Acacia spp.), tea-trees (Leptospermium spp.) and wildflowers.Wildlife species known to occur on the sanctuary include koalas (Phascolarctos cinereus), eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), wallaroos (Macropus robustus), short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus), lace monitors (Varanus varius), eastern brown (Pseudonaja textilis) and red-bellied black (Pseudechis porphyriacus) snakes, lizards and frogs, and approximately 90 species of birds have been recorded.
