A dedicated wildlife sanctuary, bush conservation and wildlife release site

Description

Ron Smith is the owner of Tranquility Two, a property located approximately 30km southwest of Ipswich. The property is a dedicated wildlife sanctuary currently used for the conservation of natural bushland habitat and as a rehabilitated wildlife release area. It is Ron's intent to maintain the natural ecosystem and enhance the environment for koala habitation.

The sanctuary covers 16.96 hectares of undulating natural bushland populated by ironbark and blue gum, and features a stand of swamp tea-tree (Melaleuca irbyana) forest of south-east Queensland, an ecological community listed as critically endangered under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act, 1999. Predominant vegetation types include eucalypt woodland, swamp tea-tree forest and native grassland.

Examples of wildlife species known to be found on Tranquility Two include swamp wallabies (Wallabia bicolour), eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus), koalas (Phascolarctos cinereus) and a wide range of reptile species.
