Trish Maycock is the owner of Misty Mountain Hop, a property located approximately 25km southeast of Gatton. The property is a dedicated wildlife sanctuary and home, and it is Trish’s intent for it to continue in these purposes.
The property covers 1.01 sloping hectares on Little Liverpool Range, with minimal vegetation cleared for the house and access sites. A large dam provides a water source for wildlife year-round, with the exception of during severe drought. Vegetation types include eucalypts such as grey ironbarks (Eucalyptus paniculata), wattles (Acacia spp.), grevilleas, grass trees (Xanthorrhoea spp.) and a variety of native grasses and shrubs.
Wildlife species for which the sanctuary provides habitat include eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), red-necked (Macropus rufogriseus), swamp (Wallabia bicolor) and whiptail (Macropus parryi) wallabies, southern-brown (Isoodon obesulus) and long-nosed (Perameles nasuta) bandicoots, brushtail possums (Trichosurus vulpecula), sugar gliders (Petaurus breviceps), flying-foxes, koalas (Phascolarctos cinereus), lace monitors (Varanus varius), eastern bearded dragons (Pogona barbata), blue-tongued lizards (Tiliqua spp.), various skinks and geckos, carpet pythons (Morelia spilota), various frog species, tawny frogmouths (Podargus strigoides), sulphur-crested cockatoos (Cacatua galerita), galahs (Eolophus roseicapilla), Australian magpies (Cracticus tibicen), pied currawongs (Strepera graculina), rainbow lorikeets (Trichoglossus haematodus) and various other birdlife.
