A residence and wildlife-friendly sanctuary

Description

Pat Scott and Susan Dodsworth are the owners of The Treehouse, a property situated in Camp Mountain, approximately 20km northwest of Brisbane, Queensland. The property is a residence and wildlife-friendly sanctuary, and it is Pat and Susan’s intention to improve the biodiversity of the property by clearing invasive plant species, including lantana and umbrella plants.

The Treehouse backs onto Samford Conservation Park and covers approximately 2.02 hectares of native bushland predominately comprised of eucalypt woodland. The property features a large dam that feeds into a creek when flooded and provides habitat for native species.

The property is home to a wide range of wildlife including swamp wallabies (Wallabia bicolor), koalas (Phascolarctos cinereus), short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus), sugar gliders (Petaurus breviceps), brushtail (Trichosurus vulpecula) and ringtail (Pseudocheirus peregrinus) possums, antechinus, microbats, lace monitors (Varanus varius), water dragons (Intellagama lesueurii) and frogs. A freshwater turtle has also been sighted.

A vast array of birdlife is also present including king parrots (Alisterus scapularis), sulphur-crested (Cacatua galerita) and black (Calyptorhynchus spp.) cockatoos, channel-billed cuckoos (Scythrops novaehollandiae), laughing kookaburras (Dacelo novaeguineae), brush turkeys (Alectura lathami) and pheasants.
