Wildlife Land Trust / Sanctuaries / QLD / Miranda’s Refuge

Miranda Harrison is the owner of a property situated in Diwan, approximately 100km north of Cairns, Queensland. The property is a residential home as well as a dedicated sanctuary for wildlife, and Miranda intends to preserve the property for wildlife into the future. Miranda also intends to preserve her property’s existing wildlife corridors linking to the adjoining Daintree National Park and her neighbours, who are also members of the Wildlife Land Trust.

The property spans approximately 1.13 hectares and is situated in a residential area of the Daintree Rainforest, north of the Daintree River and adjoining the Daintree National Park. Vegetation is largely characterized by tropical rainforest, with a wide range of native plant species present.

A vast array of native wildlife is also present including musky rat-kangaroos (Hypsiprymnodon moschatus), dingoes (Canis lupus dingo), bandicoots, melomys, antechinus, rakali (Hydromys chrysogaster), microbats, flying foxes, lace monitors (Varanus varius), major skinks (Egernia frerei), red-bellied black snakes (Pseudechis porphyriacus) and a variety of pythons, lizards and frogs.

A wide range of birdlife is also found on the property including southern cassowaries (Casuarius casuarius), sulphur-crested cockatoos (Cacatua galerita), butcherbirds, sun birds and many more.
