Donald Clelland is the owner of Cloudland, a property situated in Black Mountain, approximately 50km northwest of Sunshine Coast, Queensland. The property is a residence and dedicated wildlife sanctuary. Donald intends to support native plants and animals on the property by eliminating noxious weeds, keeping the dams free of invasive species and allowing natural regeneration of native plants to occur.
Cloudland spans 2.02 hectares across sloping grasslands with a perimeter of native trees interspersed with lantana (Lantana camara). The property features three waterholes and backs on to Black Fella Creek to the south. Vegetation is largely comprised of natural and introduced grass species bounded by eucalypt woodland.
An abundance of wildlife is present including swamp wallabies (Wallabia bicolor), brushtail (Trichosurus vulpecula) and ringtail (Pseudocheirus peregrinus) possums, northern brown bandicoots (Isoodon macrourus), short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus), koalas (Phascolarctos cinereus), red-bellied black (Pseudechis porphyriacus) and eastern brown (Pseudonaja textilis) snakes, carpet pythons (Morelia spilota), green (Dendrelaphis punctulata) and brown (Boiga irregularis) tree snakes, lace monitors (Varanus varius), striped marsh frogs (Limnodynastes peronii) and green tree frogs (Litoria caerulea).
A myriad of birdlife is also present including rainbow lorikeets (Trichoglossus moluccanus), blue-faced (Entomyzon cyanotis) and Lewin’s (Meliphaga lewinii) honeyeaters, eastern whipbirds (Psophodes olivaceus), spangled drongos (Dicrurus bracteatus), magpies (Cracticus tibicen), laughing kookaburras (Dacelo novaeguineae), noisy miners (Manorina melanocephala), galahs (Eolophus roseicapilla), red-tailed black cockatoos (Calyptorhynchus banksii), Major Mitchell cockatoos (Lophochroa leadbeateri), rosellas (Platycercus spp.), spotted catbirds (Ailuroedus maculosus), noisy friarbirds (Philemon corniculatus), superb (Ptilinopus superbus) and Wompoo (P. magnificus) fruit doves, crows (Corvus orru) and king parrots (Alisterus scapularis).
