A residence and dedicated wildlife sanctuary

Description

David Young is the owner of Strathdickie Forest Cottage, a property situated in Strathdickie, approximately 10km north of Proserpine, Queensland. The property is a residence and dedicated wildlife sanctuary, and David wishes to sell the property to a conservation-minded buyer in the near future. An application for the property to be conserved in-perpetuity as a Nature Refuge is underway, created in conjunction with two adjoining lots to create a 6-hectare block of habitat connecting to the Conway National Park. The property is additionally registered with Land for Wildlife.

Situated on Mount Lucas with a 230-metre elevation, Strathdickie Forest Cottage spans 2 hectares of largely undisturbed remnant and regrowth forest on sloping and steeply sloping land. The property adjoins national park on one boundary and an easement on the other. Vegetation consists of seasonally dry tropical rainforest dominated by blackboard tree (Alstonia scholaris) and ficus species, strung with various lianas.

The property houses critical habitat for the endangered Proserpine rock wallaby (Petrogale persephone). It is also home to lace monitors (Varanus varius), short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus) and Ulysses butterflies (Papilio ulysses). Approximately 100 resident and seasonally migrating bird species have been sighted on the property.
