Wildlife Land Trust / Sanctuaries / QLD / Simkin Sanctuary

Jessica and Daniel Simkin are the owners of Simkin Sanctuary, a property situated in Mareeba, approximately 50km west of Cairns, Queensland. The property is a home and wildlife sanctuary, and the owners plan to manage it as sustainably as possible for the benefit of native species. They also wish to rehabilitate and release wildlife on the property in the future.

Simkin Sanctuary covers 0.5 hectares on a new estate in a rural area, backing onto a paddock surrounded by bushland. The property features vegetable gardens and fruit trees, along with large native trees that surround the block. The owners are planting additional native trees to enhance habitat for native species.

Wildlife is abundant and includes many eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus) as well as dingoes (Canis dingo), native birds, lizards and snakes.
