A farm, eco-friendly tourist accommodation and dedicated wildlife sanctuary

Kate and Andy Gilfillan are the owners of Creek Bay, a property situated in Penneshaw, Kangaroo Island off South Australia. The property is a working sheep farm, eco-friendly tourist accommodation and dedicated wildlife sanctuary. Kate and Andy intend to maintain the property for these purposes whilst preserving the natural values present. They have plans to establish a carbon sequestration initiative and also aim to introduce dung beetles to the property, which would improve pasture and reduce disease risks. The property is additionally protected with a South Australian Heritage Agreement.

The property covers approximately 1,500 hectares on Antechamber Bay and is comprised of pastoral land, coastal areas and native vegetation. The heritage areas and sheltered zones of the property are home to threatened narrow-leaf mallee (Eucalyptus cneorifolia) woodland, and the remaining vegetation is typical of the eastern end of the island.

The property is home to all known species present on Kangaroo Island except koalas. This includes Kangaroo Island kangaroos (Macropus fuliginosus), tammar wallabies (Macropus eugenii), heath monitors (Varanus rosenbergi), Cape Barren geese (Cereopsis novaehollandiae), black-faced cormorants (Phalacrocorax fuscescens), short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus), southern brown bandicoots (Isoodon obesulus) and many more.
