A dedicated wildlife sanctuary and eco-friendly accommodation

Robert Clements and Yael Katz are the owners of Ecopia Retreat, a property situated in Seddon, Kangaroo Island off South Australia. The property is a dedicated wildlife sanctuary and luxury off-grid eco-accommodation with a focus on nature-based experiences. It is Robert and Yael’s intention to maintain the property as a sustainable tourism enterprise whilst continuing to preserve habitat for native wildlife.

The property spans approximately 60 hectares of pristine native bush and is intersected by the Eleanor River which provides water and habitat for an abundance of native species. Vegetation is characterized by native grasslands and eucalypt woodland dominated by cup gum (Eucalyptus cosmophylla), pink gum (E. fasciculosa), blue gum (E. leucoxylon) and Xanthorrhoea species.

A wide array of wildlife is present including Kangaroo Island kangaroos (Macropus fuliginosus fuliginosus), tammar wallabies (Macropus eugenii), koalas (Phascolarctos cinereus), brushtail possums (Trichosurus vulpecula), short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus), heath monitors (Varanus rosenbergi) and an endangered subspecies of the glossy black cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus lathami halmaturinus).
