A residence also used for wildlife rehabilitation and agriculture

Description

Constance Attard is the owner of Coorong Nature Haven, a property situated in Coorong, approximately 160km southeast of Adelaide, South Australia. The property is a residence also used for wildlife rehabilitation and agriculture. Constance is currently regenerating the property, with plans to restore 60 acres and open an ecology centre. She intends to improve habitat on the property through a biodiverse farm forestry trial being conducted to inform land management in the region. The trial will involve planting mixed native species and harvesting timber sustainably, with a view of enhancing the landscape and providing a variety of habitat for native species.

The property encompasses 35.4 hectares, with water frontage to the Coorong Lagoon. One-third of the property consists of saline wetlands, with the remainder comprised of coastal grassland and heath rising to 60 metres. Previously used to run sheep, the property is now undergoing restoration. The land is surrounded by the Coorong National Park and is included in its flora and fauna surveys.

A range of native species are present including emus (Dromaius novaehollandiae), western grey kangaroos (Macropus fuliginosus), bare-nosed wombats (Vombatus ursinus) and pelicans (Pelecanus conspicillatus). An array of resident and migratory waterbirds are also found within the wetlands.
