Wildlife Land Trust / Sanctuaries / VIC / Kaylene and Nathan’s Refuge

Kaylene Idda and Nathan Agius are the owners of a property situated in Emerald, approximately 60km east of Melbourne, Victoria. Kaylene and Nathan recently purchased the property as a residence and wildlife-friendly sanctuary. They intend to maintain the block as a wildlife corridor by removing invasive flora species and revegetating the understory to support local wildlife. They also have plans to use the site for wildlife rehabilitation. The land is additionally registered with Land for Wildlife.

The property covers 0.42 hectares across a mostly forested bush block, characterised by tall wet eucalypt and acacia forest with some remnant old-growth trees present.

A range of wildlife is present including bare-nosed wombats (Vombatus ursinus), short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus), brushtail (Trichosurus vulpecula) and ringtail (Pseudocheirus peregrinus) possums and an abundance of birdlife.
