A dedicated wildlife sanctuary and wildlife shelter

Description

Lyndel Chalmers is the owner of Locky's Legacy, a property located approximately 10km north of Pakenham. The property is a dedicated wildlife sanctuary, and it is Lyndel's intent to continue to utilise the property for conservation purposes. The sanctuary is also a registered wildlife shelter with plans to open an eco-friendly bed and breakfast in the future.

Locky's Legacy covers approximately 5.9 hectares of hilly, native bushland with a dam and a creek running through the end of the property, providing a vital water source for wildlife. The sanctuary is dominated by eucalypt woodlands and native undergrowth with riparian vegetation along the creek bank.

Wildlife species known to inhabit the sanctuary include sulphur-crested cockatoos (Cacatua galerita), superb lyrebirds (Menura novahollandiae), kookaburras (Dacelo novaeguineae), swamp wallabies (Wallabia bicolor), eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), bare nosed wombats (Vombatus ursinus), short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus) and a variety of water birds, wrens, finches and robins.
