A residence and dedicated wildlife sanctuary

Description

Corringle Cottage sanctuary extends over 12.34 acres in Newmerella, and is located only 7 km from the coast and Lake Corringle, and 3 km from the Snowy River.  Leonie Chester's property would once have once been coastal rainforest, thus it features profusely growing coastal mahoganies (Eucalyptus botryoides), cheesewood (Pittosporum spp.) and lilly pilly (Syzygium smithii).  The spring fed dam which provides water for emergencies is fenced off and full of long neck turtles, native fish and yabbies.

With a surrounding area of national parks and state forest, Corringle Cottage sanctuary is home to a variety of wildlife including eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), bare-nosed wombats (Vombatus ursinus), microbats, eastern blue-tongue lizards (Tiliqua scincoides scincoides), red-bellied black snakes (Pseudechis porphyriacus), and a variety of skinks. The property also features a diversity of birds such as king parrots (Alisterus scapularis), eastern (Platycercus eximius) and crimson (Platycercus elegans) rosellas, galahs (Eolophus roseicapilla), gang-gang cockatoos (Callocephalon fimbriatum), yellow-tailed black cockatoos (Calyptorhynchus funereus), willy wagtails (Rhipidura leucophrys), superb fairy-wrens (Malurus cyaneus), wattle birds (Anthochaera spp.), butcher birds and various honeyeaters.
