Taringa is a property located in Glenlyon, approximately 50km North-East of Ballarat, which is owned by Galena Debney. The sanctuary is approximately 28 hectares of hilly country, of which around one third is covered by natural bushland made up of Box-Ironbark forest dominated by various dry schlerophyll eucalypt species. The sanctuary also features bottlebrushes (Callistemon spp.) and wattles (Acacia spp.) as well as native wildflowers and grasses.
Wildlife present on Taringa includes dozens of native bird species, swamp wallabies (Wallabia bicolor) and eastern grey (Macropus giganteus), common brushtail (Trichosurus vulpecula) and ringtail (Pseudocheirus peregrinus) possums, short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus), platypuses (Ornithorhynchus anatinus) and many other native species. It is Galena’s intention to place a perpetually binding conservation covenant on the property.
