Wildlife Land Trust / Sanctuaries / VIC / Fisher’s Refuge

Fisher’s Refuge is a 11.33 hectare sanctuary located 45 km north-west of Geelong, Victoria. The property consists of flat grazing land and a steep hill, at the base of which runs a small creek through the sanctuary.

The refuge provides habitat for swamp wallabies (Wallabia bicolor), koalas (Phascolarctos cinereus) and a variety of parrots. The owners aim to improve the entire property through better pasture and soil management, with half the property as a sustainable productive hobby farm and the other half set aside for long term non-grazing habitat improvement.

The farm incorporates a whole-of-property management approach that includes controlling gorse and undertaking re-vegetation, and the owners are especially committed to improving the health of the creek.
