Michael Johnson is the owner of Moonlit Sanctuary, a conservation park located in Pearcedale, approximately 60km south-east of Melbourne, Victoria. The property is a wildlife sanctuary which is also used for eco-tourism and conservation. The property houses rehabilitated and rescued native wildlife, and maintains a captive breeding and reintroduction program for many of its species. This property is currently a member of Land for Wildlife and a certified eco-tourism enterprise.
Moonlit Sanctuary covers 10 hectares, and consists of restored native vegetation (formerly agricultural land). The property features approximately 1 hectare of wetlands and is bordered by a 1.2 metre fence. The property is comprised of woodland and melaleuca scrub.
Wildlife known to naturally occur in the sanctuary includes grey-headed flying-foxes (Pteropus poliocephalus), brushtail possums (Trichosurus vulpecula), ringtail possums (Pseudocheirus peregrinus) and sugar gliders (Petaurus breviceps). A wide variety of bird species are also present, such as Cape Barren geese (Cereopsis novaehollandiae), Pacific black ducks (Anas superciliosa), superb fairy wrens (Malurus cyaneus), tawny frogmouths (Podargus strigoides) and crested pigeons (Ocyphaps lophotes).
