Jan and Harry Palmer are the owners of Serenity, a property located approximately 60km south of Bendigo. The property is a dedicated wildlife sanctuary and a self-sustaining residence complete with vegetable patches, fruit trees, alpacas and chickens. It is Jan and Harry’s intent to continue to utilise the property for the benefit of the local environment. The property is also registered with Land for Wildlife and Jan and Harry carry out wildlife rescues in the area, when required.
Serenity covers 4.05 hectares of gently undulating natural bushland. Vegetation consists of a variety of native grasses and trees including stringybarks (Eucalyptus obliqua), narrow-leaved peppermints (E. radiata), hardenbergias (Hardenbergia violacea), native orchids, assorted wildflowers and grevilleas.
Wildlife known to inhabit the property includes eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), swamp wallabies (Wallabia bicolor), koalas (Phascolarctos cinereus), short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus), brushtail (Trichosurus vulpecula) and ringtail (Pseudocheirus peregrinus) possums, and a variety of birds, ducks, lizards and snakes.
