Wildlife Land Trust / Sanctuaries / VIC / Skye’s Place

Jordan Crook is the owner of Skye’s Place, a property situated in Yarra Junction, approximately 65km east of Melbourne, Victoria. The property is a home and dedicated wildlife sanctuary, and Jordan intends to preserve the existing habitat for biodiversity. Jordan plans to improve the site through weed management, reinstallation of ground-based woody debris and the installation of permanent water bodies on the property.

The property covers approximately 0.2 hectares of sloping land populated by both indigenous and planted native grasses, shrubs and trees.

Vegetation is classified as pre-1750 Green Scentbark Herb-rich Foothill Forest, and dominant species include green scentbark (Eucalyptus fulgens), narrow-leaved peppermint (E. radiata), messmate (E. obliqua) and cherry ballart (Exocarpos cupressiformis).

The property is home to a wide range of native species including short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus), eastern blue-tongued lizards (Tiliqua scincoides), sulphur-crested cockatoos (Cacatua galerita), spotted pardalotes (Pardalotus punctatus), eastern spinebills (Acanthorhynchus tenuirostris) and white-throated tree creepers (Cormobates leucophaea).
