Wildlife Land Trust / Sanctuaries / VIC / Circle E Ranch

Gary Egan is the owner of Circle E Ranch, a property located in Huntly North, approximately 20km north of Bendigo, Victoria. The property is a dedicated bush rehabilitation and conservation site, and Gary has plans to expand this wildlife-friendly area through the purchase and regeneration of surrounding properties in the future. In 2014, Gary revegetated 12 hectares with indigenous trees and shrubs, and has since worked to preserve the remnant old-growth forest that covers 22 hectares of the property.

The property spans approximately 50 hectares, comprised of 22 hectares of remnant and regrowth forest, 12 hectares of recently replanted native bush and 16 hectares of cleared land. Vegetation is largely dominated by eucalypt woodland consisting of grey box (Eucalyptus microcarpa), yellow box (Eucalyptus melliodora) and many other species.

A vast array of wildlife is present including eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), swamp wallabies (Wallabia bicolor), short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus) and eastern brown snakes (Pseudonaja textilis). Birdlife including wedge-tailed eagles (Aquila audax), galahs (Eolophus roseicapilla), sulphur-crested cockatoos (Cacatua galerita) and many more are also abundant.
