A home, wildlife-friendly sanctuary and habitat corridor

Description

Kerri Erler is the owner of a property situated in Teesdale, approximately 30km northwest of Geelong, Victoria. The property is a home and wildlife-friendly sanctuary, and the owner wishes to preserve the existing habitat for the benefit of native species. Kerri also intends to revegetate the property with local plant species to improve habitat and extend a wildlife corridor linking to the nearby Teesdale Grassy Woodlands Reserve.

The property covers 1 hectare of flat land bound by a fence and features a billabong. It is situated close to the Teesdale Grassy Woodland and Sheoak Reserves. The property is largely comprised of native woodland species including hollow-bearing old-growth river red gums (Eucalyptus camaldulensis), younger trees and understory species. The owner has revegetated the land with native grasses, drooping sheoak (Allocasuarina verticillata) and manna gum (Eucalyptus viminalis) to facilitate a wildlife corridor.

A wide range of wildlife is found on the property including eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), native frogs, finches, New Holland honeyeaters (Phylidonyris novaehollandiae), silvereyes (Zosterops lateralis), green grass parrots (Psephotus haematonotus), rosellas (Platycercus spp.), magpies (Gymnorhina tibicen), willy wagtails (Rhipidura leucophrys), sulphur-crested cockatoos (Cacatua galerita), wattlebirds, kingfishers and long-billed corellas (Cacatua tenuirostris).
