Brian Spitteler is the owner of Bussells Bushland Cottages, a property situated in Margaret River, approximately 95km south of Bunbury, Western Australia. The property is a wildlife-friendly refuge and tourist accommodation, and it is Brian’s intention to maintain it for these purposes. The property is additionally registered with Land for Wildlife.

Bussells Bushland Cottages is set on 20 hectares of native forest and features several walking trails. The forest is dominated by Jarrah (Eucalyptus marginata), Marri (Corymbia calophylla) and peppermint (Eucalyptus nicholii) gums as well as banksias.

An abundance of wildlife is present including western grey kangaroos (Macropus fuliginosus), southern brown bandicoots (Isoodon obesulus), brush-tailed phascogales (Phascogale tapoatafa), brushtail possums (Trichosurus vulpecula) and various skinks.

A vast array of birdlife is also present on the property including splendid (Malurus splendens) and red-winged (Malurus elegans) fairy wrens, western rosellas (Platycercus icterotis), white-eared (Nesoptilotis leucotis) and white-naped (Melithreptus lunatus) honeyeaters, red-tailed black cockatoos (Calyptorhynchus banksii), southern boobooks (Ninox boobook), laughing kookaburras (Dacelo novaeguineae) and red wattlebirds (Anthochaera carunculata).
